After updating my Nothing Phone 2 to Nothing OS 2.5.x my NFC performance went to heck in a hand basket. Check that video here; https://youtu.be/X9K-rFQVyEM In this update, I bump my phone to Nothing OS 2.5.3, which does nothing to solve the NFC performance issues brought on by updating to NOS 2.5 (Android 14). However, I show off a solution being worked on. Big thanks to @Hamspiced for his work to prove the repeater tank circuits are effective at improving performance of NFC readers with small size transponders.

Nothing Phone 2 NFC Update

I bought a Nothing Phone 2, updated it from Nothing OS 2.0.0 to Nothing OS 2.5.2, and found the update killed NFC performance for ISO14443A transponders. So, after returning it for repair and receiving it back, I found they simply rolled it back to Nothing OS 2.0.0.. but that's not a solution. In the video, I mistakenly comment they sent me a new phone, but no it was the same phone just rolled back to 2.0.0. So, I decided to record the process of stepping through updates and testing at each step. I used a 13mm diameter NTAG424 ISO14443A wet inlay (flip chip adhesive sticker with printed silver ink antenna coil) NFC transponder for testing to highlight the issue best. Here's the TL;DR -------------- Nothing OS 2.0.0 = 1cm range Nothing OS 2.0.2 = 1.25cm range Nothing OS 2.0.4 = 1mm to 1cm range (unstable) Nothing OS 2.5.2 = 0mm range (broken)
